he·man·gi·o·ma

when lyla was born i remember my doctor looking her over and commenting that she had a very large bruise on the back of her head (right behind her right ear).  after getting her cleaned up and doing an ultrasound on the spot, we found out that it was just a hemangioma (a benign tumor consisting chiefly of dilated or newly formed blood vessels).  her pediatrician told us that most hemangiomas sporadically get bigger and smaller and should go away on its own within a few years.

so here is a picture of lyla at just a few days old. you can't really tell, but it is about 2 inches in diameter and it was raised like a bubble about 1/2 an inch...and obviously very purpley:

and now six months later...it is no longer a bubble, it is flush with her head, and it is not purple at all anymore.  if you look closely, you can still see it, plus no hair really grows on it (but the hair right above it grows like weeds because of the extra blood flow to those vessels...she has had two hair cuts in just this spot because it gets so long!)

why do i post this you ask...well, lately i am just amazed at how quickly time is going by and how much my kids are changing.  lyla will be crawling soon and k-bug goes to preschool next month.  time is flying just a little too quickly for me.  i usually can't get enough of my two awesome kiddos.

Hey Erin! I'm glad Lyla's is gone...my daughter was born with a hemangioma on her stomach. She's almost 2 and it's still there...shrinking, but still noticeable. Your kids are so darn cute! It's insane how fast time flies! Just a few more years and we'll be graduated for 10! Yipes!

Hola! So my little brother Chris had one next to his chin! Same deal, it just took a few years and it was completely faded away! She is so darling, I love the picture of her trying to bite you! HAHA
